Gülfem Çetin Çapcı profile

With a background in journalism and many years of experience as an art director in the film and advertising industries, the artist has long explored the power of visual storytelling.

Her time on set—immersed in the interplay of light, color, and spatial composition—was more than a profession; it was a deep engagement with how stories are shaped and atmospheres are constructed through visual means. These years laid the foundation for her keen sense of aesthetic, emotional nuance, and spatial awareness. Over time, she turned away from external narratives and toward an inner journey—an introspective shift that led her to painting as an intuitive and experimental practice. For her, art is not only a creative act but also one of transformation, confrontation, and healing. She uses color—particularly blue—not just as a visual choice but as an emotional language. Blue, in her work, becomes the embodiment of silence, fragility, vulnerability, and the quiet resilience of the soul. This approach is powerfully embodied in the first painting of her Ladders Series, titled “Blue Feelings.” The work marks the beginning of a deeply personal exploration of insecurity, fear, hesitation, and the longing to move forward. The ladder in the painting is not merely structural; it becomes a metaphor for the inner journey—between rising and remaining still, between courage and doubt. Two figures anchor this emotional space: one holds onto the ladder with a sense of resolve, while the other hesitates below, caught in uncertainty. “Blue Feelings” transforms the color blue into a state of being. Through layered tones, contrasting forms, and emotional tension, the work invites the viewer into the artist’s internal world—where questions like “Should I begin?” or “Am I ready?” are not just personal, but universal.
