Paula Kirsten

Paula Kirsten, born in the 90s in Delmenhorst, Germany is a self-taught abstract painter.
She focuses on mixed media arts, primarily using acrylic spray cans and oil sticks. Said materials allow her to express fleeting still intense emotions and thoughts and contribute to the intuitive composition of vibrant, lush colors and dynamic lines she is known for. Internal states are not conceived autonomously by the Artist, but are always considered in relation to omnipresent social power structures. Her law studies, which she completed in 2021 with a main focus on international public law as well as her work experience in the political field serve as a theoretical component when it comes to classifying individual experiences in the context of society as a whole. Thus, the creative process not only serves to regulate her own emotions, but also enables her to place individually experienced feelings in a broader context, thereby making them collectively accessible. For her, the creative process is the main focus with the final result being subordinate. Not making any sketches in advance, the act of creation challenges and empowers the Artist to give up the need for control over any outcome. Paula lives and works in Berlin.
